# Create or join a workspace

> Signing up, the choice between starting a company and joining one, and what happens while you wait for approval.

A workspace is one company's Linkiasoft: its channels, its team, its customers. The first
question after signing up is whether you are starting one or joining one that already
exists.

<Warning>
  If your colleagues already use Linkiasoft, **join** their workspace — do not create a
  second one. Two workspaces cannot share an inbox, channels or customers, and moving
  between them later means starting over.
</Warning>

## Signing up

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create your account">
    Continue with Google or Microsoft, or use a work email address.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set your name and password">
    Passwords need at least 8 characters, with an uppercase letter, a number and a special
    character.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify your email">
    We send a link. Nothing else works until you click it — check spam if it has not
    arrived after a couple of minutes.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Creating a company

You become its admin, with full control over channels, roles and billing.

You will be asked for:

| Field            | Notes                                                                      |
| ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Company name | Shown to your team. Changeable later. |
| Workspace handle | Your workspace's address. **Permanent — it cannot be changed after this.** |
| Billing country | Sets your currency and tax treatment. |
| Logo             | Optional, changeable later.                                                |

The handle is the only irreversible choice on this screen. Pick the company name, not a
project or a person.

## Joining a company

<Steps>
  <Step title="Search for the company by name">
    If nothing matches, the workspace may be registered under a different name — ask a
    colleague what it is called rather than creating a new one.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send the request">
    Add a short note saying who you are. It helps the admin recognize you.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for approval">
    You land on a waiting screen that refreshes itself. An admin has to approve you before
    you can get in — you can cancel the request and choose differently while you wait.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Approving people

Admins approve requests under **Invitations → Join requests**. Anyone approved needs a
role before they can do anything useful — see
[Invite your team](/help/getting-started/invite-your-team).

<Note>
  Being invited by email is different: an invitation link takes you straight in with the
  role already chosen, no approval step.
