# Voice calling and SMS

> Enabling WhatsApp calling, call forwarding and recording, plus how SMS credits work.

## Voice calling

Available on [WhatsApp Business](/help/channels/whatsapp-cloud-api) numbers. The QR-code
connection cannot take calls — it can only auto-reject them.

### Enabling it

**Settings → Channels → Calling.** Enable calling per WhatsApp number.

| Setting              | What it does                                                  |

| **Enable calling**   | Turns calling on for that number                              |
| **Forward to**       | Where calls go: a SIP address, a WebSocket, or a phone number |
| **Call recording**   | Records calls                                                 |
| **Public call link** | A link customers can use to call you directly                 |

<Warning>
  **Forwarding to a phone number carries per-minute charges** from the carrier, separate from
  your Linkiasoft plan. Forwarding to SIP or a WebSocket does not. The setting warns you, but
  it is worth saying twice — an unnoticed forwarding rule on a busy number gets expensive.

### Recording

Check your local law before enabling. Many jurisdictions require you to tell the caller
they are being recorded, and some require consent. Recordings play back from the call
history on the conversation.

### In the inbox

Incoming calls can be answered or declined in the app. The conversation shows a call history
panel — incoming, outgoing, missed and failed calls, with recordings where available, and
each call's cost.

### Turning it off

Disable calling on the number. Existing recordings are kept.

## SMS

SMS is sent from the inbox and from [broadcasts](/help/campaigns/broadcasts). It is billed
against an **SMS credit balance**, separate from your plan's unit pool.

Notes worth knowing:

* Numbers need the country code and no spaces or dashes.
* SMS has no delivery receipts as rich as WhatsApp's — sent does not always mean read.
* It is meaningfully more expensive per message than WhatsApp. Use it where WhatsApp is not
  available, not as a default.

Running out of SMS credit stops SMS only; other channels are unaffected.
